"if you can create a believable performance without all the additional features (arms, legs, eyebrows, etc..), later on, when you have access to to those thing, your performance will only get better".

1. PLANNING THE PERFORMANCE

Rules:

  1. Character must interact with an object or a small animal
  2. Character must begin with size indicated in template.
  3. Character must physically move across a portion of the stage (from A to B to C,  or A to B to A) by either hopping, walking, etc.
  4. K.I.S.S. - Keep it simple silly. 

 

Scenes:

  1. Wake up and fall out of bed
  2. Chasing a butterfly
  3. Interacting with a small animal - a mouse
  4. Climbing to get to the cookie jar/cereal box etc
  5. Jumping in puddles
  6. Flying a kite on a windy day
  7. Calling. Wiating & entering an elevator
  8. Climbing up hill and rolling back down
  9. Rolling down the stairs
  10. Inflate with a bicycle pump
  11. Interact with a skateboard

 

 

2. SCENEPLANNING/LAYOUT

a. Import Framing Guide - Use the framing and scale from floursack layout template - download here

b. Layout scene (Blocking) - Draw thumbnails poses on single image to block out the entire scene. Does your character run or hop? Whatever you choose this will definately inform your blocking.

Submit: Export a layout image at 1920 x 1080 (100%) and then post it to the Discord #floursack channel

3. ROUGH ANIMATION

a. Key Poses and Breakdowns - Stake out your strong poses and plan your arcs with Breakdown drawings.

b. Breakdown Timings - Add frames to drawings as needed at 24 fps.

4. MODELCHECK & INBETWEEN

a. Model Check Pass - Make sure all of your Keys and Breakdown Drawing are "On Model".

b. Inbetween - fill in drawings so your animation works on 2's

5. INK & PAINT

a. Ink drawings - trace off drawings with pen tool on a new layer.

b. Paint - Use the Paint tool and color palette to fill in color on your character.

6. HI-LIGHTS, MID-TONE AND SHADOWS

a. Hi-light & Mid-tone - Use the Hi-light and Tone Nodes to add demension to your character.

b. Drop Shadow - Use the Shadow tool & Quad map to create a drop shadow.
